🌱 Bristol Aggie Receives $17,718 Food Security Infrastructure Grant Award! 🐔 We are excited to share that Bristol County Agricultural High School has been awarded $17,718 through the 2027 Food Security Infrastructure Grant (FSIG) Program from the Massachusetts Department of Agricultural Resources (MDAR). The goal of the FSIG Program is to ensure that individuals and families throughout the Commonwealth have access to food, with a special focus on locally produced food and equitable access to food. This investment will help Bristol Aggie expand our poultry production system through a new broiler coop kit and heat plates/covers. For our students, this is more than an equipment purchase. It creates additional opportunities for hands-on agricultural education, strengthens our ability to produce locally raised poultry, and supports our mission of connecting students to the full cycle of agriculture—from production to processing to the food that reaches our campus and community. The project will also allow us to provide additional locally produced food to campus and community customers through our existing licensed processing channels. Livestock teacher, Mrs. da Silva explained, “The Food Security Infrastructure Grant is a fantastic opportunity for Bristol Aggie to expand upon their poultry program. This grant will allow us to purchase many of the items necessary to process our own meat birds as well as expand upon egg production and sales. In doing so, students will be able to learn about multiple pathways they could take in the poultry production field and how to safely and effectively raise their own birds.” We are grateful to MDAR for investing in agricultural education, local food production, and the infrastructure needed to strengthen food security across Massachusetts. Upperclassmen in Agricultural Mechanics have been assisting Livestock with chopping corn! Students had the opportunity to ride in the tractor and learn from our foremen. This corn will be stored and fermented to be fed to our dairy herd.🌽🚜🐮 #BAPride #CultivatingExcellence

Arboriculture juniors are kicking off the school year with a hands-on tree planting unit. Students are maintaining semi-established campus trees by exposing their root flares and applying fresh mulch, while also training trees on the BA topiary project using strategic branch-tying techniques. #BAPride #CultuvatingExcellence

Large Animal Science students spent the afternoon outside working with the animals. Equine students rode the horses, obtained a resting TPR for an equine fitness project, and hosed them down to keep the horses cool! Livestock students began selecting their show animals for Fall Show and started working with them. Underclassemen learned how to catch and halter sheep and were introduced to our horses! #BAPride #CultivatingExcellence

This week the Livestock seniors had an agronomy lesson about our corn fields with our farm manager, Joey, and the Floriculture students. Joey showed them how to measure the moisture content of the corn and how those numbers translate into dry matter intake and why it is so important for our dairy herd. We then moved to the flori classroom to have a guided corn dissection learning about water absorption, pollination, and basic anatomical structures. This information is crucial to managing crops appropriately and sustainably.

Juniors in Landscape Design & Contracting are working on the final phase of the legacy brick project. They’re finishing up laying the bricks in front of the Vet Center and will be done before Fall Show! 🌱🧬🧪 Bristol Aggie Receives Toshiba America Foundation STEM Grant! We are excited to share that Bristol County Agricultural High School has been awarded $5,853 from the Toshiba America Foundation to support “From Genes to Gels: Empowering Student Scientists Through DNA Analysis,” led by Science and AP Biology teacher Mrs. Diana Hopkins. This grant will provide our students with the opportunity to move beyond simulations and gain hands-on experience with the same techniques used by scientists in real-world research and biotechnology settings. Through this project, our AP Biology students will explore modern molecular biology, analyze DNA, and make meaningful connections between the concepts they learn in the classroom and their applications in the scientific community. We were especially excited to welcome representatives from Toshiba America Foundation to campus on Tuesday to officially present Mrs. Hopkins with the $5,853 grant check! Since the equipment purchased through this grant will directly benefit our AP Biology students, several of our students had the opportunity to be part of the celebration and take a picture with Toshiba Account Manager Mr. Louro and Vice President Mr. Ellis. 📸🔬 We are incredibly grateful to the Toshiba America Foundation for investing in our students and supporting innovative, hands-on STEM education. Grants like this give our students the opportunity to ask questions, explore, experiment, and learn like real scientists. ⚖️📚 Bringing True Crime to Life! Our 12th Grade ELA True Crime class had the opportunity to welcome Officer Roy as a guest speaker! 👮‍♂️ Officer Roy shared his real-world expertise on court procedures, protocols, and what happens inside the courtroom, giving our students a firsthand look at how the justice system operates beyond the pages of their coursework. Experiences like this help connect classroom learning to the real world and give our students a deeper understanding of the topics they are studying.
